Joan Burns Memorial Scholarship in History
Award Amount
Stipend equal to domestic tuition fees for 1.00 EFTS
Description:
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognise and support academic excellence by Honours and Master’s students in History at the University of Canterbury.
Value/Benefits:
Financial assistance to the equivalent of University of Canterbury tuition fees for the recipient's programme of study at the domestic rate. The value will not exceed the fees for 1.00 EFTS of study (the equivalent of one year of full-time study)

5:00 pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)
Tenure:
One year for full-time study. Up to two calendar years for part-time study

Special Eligibility Requirements:
Must be enrolled full-time or part-time in a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (BA(Hons)) in History, or in Part I of a Master of Arts (MA) in History.
Selection will be based on:
Academic achievement; and
Academic potential.
This will be assessed, in part, by consideration of two referee reports provided by the applicant.
The scholarship must be taken up in the year of application.
Additional Information:
This scholarship was established from a 1995 bequest from Joan Mary Burns for the promotion of the study of History at the University of Canterbury.
The scholarship is tenable for the period necessary to complete 1.00 EFTS of enrolment while the recipient is enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in either a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree programme, or Part I of a Master of Arts degree programme. Recipients who are studying part-time will have a tenure of up to two calendar years.
