Description:

This scholarship assists and encourages Civil Engineering students from the University of Canterbury to undertake a career in Civil Engineering or Natural Resources Engineering.

Value/Benefits:
a. Financial assistance at a value of $5,000
b. AECOM may offer the scholarship holder paid employment during the summer vacation at the end of his or her Second Professional Year.

Level of Study: Undergraduate

Closing Date: 5:00pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number available annually: One

Applicable enrolment during tenure: Must be enrolled full-time in the Third Professional Year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree programme in Civil Engineering or Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury.

Citizenship/residency requirements: Must be a citizen of New Zealand, or hold a New Zealand residence class visa.

Application Information:

Following the initial application process, and eligibility checks, the University representatives will recommend a ranked list of candidates to the AECOM representative, who will determine the final interview selection after taking into account University recommendations. The scholarship recommendation will be determined by the Selection Committee, following interviews conducted by representatives of AECOM and the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering.


Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in the Second Professional Year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree programme in Civil Engineering or Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury, by the close of the application.

Applicants must also be intending to enrol full-time in the Third Professional Year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree programme in Civil Engineering or Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury in the year following the year of application.

Selection will be based on:
  1. academic achievement;
  2. technical achievement;
  3. teamwork and leadership qualities;
  4. career aspirations and interest in pursuing a career in Civil Engineering or Natural Resources Engineering; and
  5. interview performance


Additional Information:

This scholarship was established in 2016 by AECOM, and replaces the URS New Zealand Ltd Civil/Natural Resources Engineering Scholarship, which had been established in 2007. AECOM provides professional services to a broad range of engineering and environmental projects and clients.
