Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognise academic and extracurricular achievement of students who have completed two years of study towards a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and/or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, and supports study in such programmes at the University of Canterbury for a third year.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $5,000

Level of Study: Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: Up to 10, of which, two are reserved for Māori students, and two are reserved for Pasifika students

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time enrolment in the third year of a programme for a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and/or Bachelor of Laws (LLB), with at least 60 points from the BCom or LLB schedules

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be a citizen of New Zealand, or hold a New Zealand residence class visa

Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:
  • be New Zealand citizens or holder of New Zealand residence class visas; and
  • have successfully completed at least 240 points of study at any level towards a BCom or LLB degree; and
  • be in their third year of study in a programme for a BCom and/or LLB degree at the University of Canterbury; and
  • be enrolled full-time in a programme for a BCom and/or LLB, in courses totalling at least 60 points at any level from the BCom or LLB schedules.
Past recipients of the UC College of Business and Law First Year Award for Excellence, and/or the UC College of Business and Law Second Year Award for Excellence, may apply and they will be given equal consideration with other applications.

Selection will be based on:
  1. academic achievement, as indicated by grade point average in first and second years of study.
