Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognise academic and extracurricular achievement of students who have completed a first year of study towards a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and/or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, and supports study in such programmes at the University of Canterbury for a second year.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $5,000

Level of Study: Undergraduate (2nd year)

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: Up to 10, of which 2 are reserved for Māori students, and 2 are reserved for Pasifika students

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Must be enrolled full-time in the second year of a programme for a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and/or a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Canterbury, in courses totalling at least 60 points at any level from the BCom or LLB schedules

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be a citizen of New Zealand, or hold a New Zealand residence class visa

Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:
  1. be a citizen of New Zealand, or hold a New Zealand residence class visa; and
  2. have successfully completed at least 120 points of enrolment in study at first-year level towards a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of Canterbury; and
  3. be in their second year of study in a programme form a BCom or LLB degree at the University of Canterbury; and
  4. be enrolled full-time in a programme for a BCom and/or LLB at the University of Canterbury, in courses totalling at least 60 points at any level from the BCom or LLB schedules; and
Past recipients of the UC College of Business and Law First Year Award for Excellence may apply, and they will be given equal consideration with other applicants.

Selection will be based on:
  1. academic achievement, as indicated by grade point average in first-year study.
