Brief Description:
The scholarship supports students with a vision impairment in undertaking study at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.
Value/Benefits:
The value of each scholarship for full-time recipients is $10,000. A scholarship is paid pro rata if a recipient is enrolled for fewer than 120 points.

Applicable enrolment during tenure:
Applicants must be enrolled, full-time or part-time, at the University at either undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Citizenship/residency requirements:
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or holders of New Zealand residence class visas.
Special Requirements:
Applicants must have a vision impairment of 6/18 or less with both eyes and best possible correction, or less than 20 degrees of vision. By the closing date for applications, an applicant must have registered with the University’s Equity & Disability Service as a student with a vision impairment.

Application Information:
Applicants are considered for both the Lighthouse Vision Trust Scholarship and the Susan Barnes Scholarship, and the decision on which of the selected candidates is offered which scholarship is made randomly.
Special Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must have a vision impairment.
Additional Information:
The Lighthouse Vision Trust established the scholarship in 2016. The Trust provides a comprehensive Low Vision Service for the people of Waitaha Canterbury and Tai Poutini Westland regions, enriching lives and enhancing independence. This scholarship is a practical way of supporting people who have a vision impairment and who study at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.
