Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognise and support high-achieving 200-, 300-, or 400-level students majoring in Applied Data Science, Computational and Applied Mathematical Sciences, Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics , or Statistics at the University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of:
  1. $5,000 (Category A awards)
  2. $2,500 (Category B awards)
  3. $1,000 (Category C awards)

Level of Study: Undergraduate; Postgraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: Varies. Scholarships are available from an annual fund of $80,000 and are awarded in three categories

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time at the University of Canterbury in at least 60 points of 200-, 300-, or 400-level taught courses (not including any thesis course) for an undergraduate or postgraduate programme in Applied Data Science, Computational and Applied Mathematical Sciences, Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics

Application Information:

Applications from previous recipients of the scholarship are accepted, and are considered equally with those from applicants who have not previously held the scholarship.


Special Eligibility Requirements:

By 31 March in the year of application, applicants must be enrolled full-time at the University of Canterbury in at least 60 points of 200-, 300-, or 400-level taught courses (not including any thesis course) for an undergraduate or postgraduate programme in:
  1. Applied Data Science;
  2. Computational and Applied Mathematical Sciences;
  3. Data Science;
  4. Financial Engineering;
  5. Mathematics; or
  6. Statistics
Selection will be based on:
  1. academic achievement; and
  2. demonstrated commitment to, and interest in, Mathematics and/or Statistics.
There are three categories of scholarship. The value of each category reflects the recipients' levels of achievement in terms of the above criteria.
