Brief Description:

This scholarship offers financial assistance, and industry connections and advice, to Māori and Pacific/Pasifika undergraduate Engineering students at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits:

a. Financial assistance at a value of at least $4,000.

b. An opportunity of mentoring with a member of Collective Success.


Level of Study: Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date.)

Tenure:  One year

Number Available Annually: At least two

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Third Year of a programme for a BE(Hons) degree

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable

Special Requirements: Applicants must have whakapapa Māori and/or be Pacific/Pasifika students.

Additional Information:

Sina Cotter Tait established the scholarship in 2021 to encourage promising engineers with a sense of purpose into a career, while growing the number of Māori and Pacific/Pasifika students into the professional tiers and into industry leadership positions. A goal through the establishment of this scholarship is to provide Māori and Pacific/Pasifika students with career advice, job opportunity connections, and network/relationship capital, to build some equity into the bridge between university and early career.  

Sina Cotter Tait, a UC alumna, MBA, BE(Hons), is a professional engineer with her own engineering consultancy company.
