Description:

This scholarship supports undergraduate and honours students in Science at the University of Canterbury who may be unable to complete their degrees without the financial assistance of the scholarship.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with tuition fees. The scholarship will be paid to a recipient’s fees account at the time of enrolment.

Level of Study: Undergraduate 

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 01 November (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: At least one

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Applicable to students enrolled in:
a. Final year of a BSc programme
b. Final or penultimate year of a BSc(Hons) programme

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Applicants must be citizens of New Zealand.

Additional Information:

The Carlisle Charitable Trust established the scholarship in 2000 as The Carlisle Trust Scholarship. In 2009, Mrs W. Jones, on behalf of the Trust, requested the name be changed in honour of Professor Walter Jones, who was Professor of Physics at the University, a former Dean of Science, and, later, chairman of the University’s Academic Administration Committee until his retirement in 1992.
