$7,500 for one year, plus ongoing development programme throughout degree

Brief Description:

This prestigious scholarship recognises students with strong academic abilities who are aiming for significant achievements in their chosen field of study or research. The scholarship aims to nurture high-achieving students via networking and development opportunities to progress their education at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury in innovative areas and make connections to advance their careers.

Level of Study: Incoming First-Year Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: Up to 70

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment for a full year in any programme at the University. The scholarship must be taken up in Semester One of the year following the year of application

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Applicants must be:
a. Aotearoa New Zealand or Australian citizens; or
b. holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas; or
c. international students1 studying at secondary level in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Application Information:

Selection will be based on:
  1. commitment to creating positive change in the world;
  2. evidence of creativity and innovation;
  3. evidence of implementation of a project or activity that demonstrates a passion for a particular topic or issue; and
  4. strategic objectives of the University.
In an year, the number of Outstanding Impact Scholarships awarded to applicants from any one secondary school is limited to one for every 600 pupils enrolled at that school.

The Selection Committee may consider distribution in such a way that diversity of recipients with regard to their UC faculties, schools, departments and programmes is supported.


Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:
  • have achieved Excellence at NCEA Level 2 or a corresponding level in an equivalent university entrance qualification. Applicants with NCEA Level 2 Merit or equivalent may be considered if they are regarded as excelling in a particular area of the selection criteria;
  • NOT have been enrolled in a degree programme at any tertiary institute; and
  • be Aotearoa New Zealand or Australian citizens OR holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas OR international students studying at secondary level in Aotearoa New Zealand.
