Brief Description:
The purpose of this fund is to help candidates completing a Masters or Ph.D. degree in the Chemistry Department who incur heavy personal expenses in the pursuit of their research project.

Application Information:
Applications must include receipts and full details of expenses.
Special Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be enrolled:
full-time or part-time at the University of Canterbury; and
in a programme for a Master's or PhD degree in the subject of Chemistry; and
in one of the following courses of study:
BCHM 690 or BCHM 790; or
CHEM 690 or CHEM 790; or
ENVR 690 or ENVR 790
Applicants must be undertaking research principally within the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. The Senior Supervisor must be a member of the School. Where there are more than two UC supervisors, the majority must be members of the School.
Past recipients of grants from the Evans Fund are eligible to apply for further grants.
Additional Information:
The Evans Fund, given in the fiftieth year of the Nelson Science Scholarship, is provided by income from a gift received in 1978 from Miss CB (Winsome) Evans and Miss FM (Margaret) Evans in memory of their father, the late Dr William Percival Evans (1864-1959), a distinguished early graduate of Canterbury College, and Head of the Department of Chemistry and Physics at the College from 1903 to 1906, and Head of the Department of Chemistry from 1907 to 1922.
