Description:
The purpose of this scholarship is to support thesis students in Anthropology at the University of Canterbury.
Value/Benefits:
Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, at a value of $3,750 per annum
Level of Study:
Master's (by thesis) and Doctoral
Closing Date:
5:00 pm (NZT) 1 November (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)
Tenure:
The period necessary for the recipient to complete one EFTS (the equivalent of one year of full-time study). Tenure may be extended. Please refer to the regulations for further details

Full-time or part-time enrolment in a programme for an MA by thesis in Anthropology, or a PhD in Anthropology

Special Eligibility Requirements:
The scholarship is open to graduates of any university in New Zealand, or of the University of the South Pacific.
Selection will be based on:
the nature of the applicant's research proposal, or, in the case of an applicant who has already commenced a thesis for a Master of Arts (MA) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Anthropology, the quality of a progress report; and
the applicant's potential contribution to the academic life of the Department of Anthropology.
Financial hardship may also be taken into consideration.
Additional Information:
This scholarship, along with the C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Criminology (Victoria University of Wellington), was established in 2014 and partly replaces the C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Sociology and Anthropology, which had been established in 1985 by Dr Charles P. Sedgwick in memory of Jean Margaretta Rhoda Morgan and Peter Warmsley Sedgwick and as a tribute to the noted American sociologist C. Wright Mills.
