Dr John Innes Scholarship (Incoming First-Year Scholarship)
Award Amount
$5,000 per annum for up to four years
Brief Description:
This scholarship encourages and supports students from Te Kāreti Kōhine o Wairau | Marlborough Girls’ College and Te Kāreti Taitama o Wairau | Marlborough Boys’ College to study at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

Financial assistance at a value of $5,000 per annum for up to four years

Tenure:
Three years. Recipients in a four-year undergraduate programme or intending to enrol in a post-graduate programme
may apply for a fourth year of tenure

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure:
Full-time enrolment in a degree programme at the University.

Applicants must be current pupils of either Te Kāreti Kōhine o Wairau | Marlborough Girls’ College or Te Kāreti Taitama o Wairau | Marlborough Boys’ College.

Application Information:
Selection is based on:
school and community activities, including contribution to school and community life; and
academic achievement.
Special Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be current pupils of either Te Kāreti Kōhine o Wairau | Marlborough Girls’ College or Te Kāreti Taitama o Wairau | Marlborough Boys’ College.
Preference may be given to applicants intending to undertake study in History, languages, Law, or literature, the subjects in which Dr Innes had his interests.
Additional Information:
The family of Dr John Innes, MA, LLD (1860−1941) established the scholarship in 1962 in memory of their father, who was one of the first graduates of Canterbury University College and the first principal of Marlborough College, Te Waiharakeke Blenheim.
