Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to inspire and support a thesis student in astronomy at the University of Canterbury who has been or will be undertaking observational work at Mt John as part of his/her thesis work.

Value/Benefits:
a. Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, to a value of $5,000 per annum.

Level of Study: Master's; Doctoral

Closing Date: 5:00 pm (NZT) 1 November (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year (Masters); Up to three years (Doctoral)

Number Available Annually: One

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Must be enrolled at the University of Canterbury as a thesis student in astronomy, and have been, or will be, undertaking observational work at Mt John as part of the thesis work

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable

Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:
  1. Be enrolled as a thesis student in Astronomy at the University of Canterbury; and
  2. Have been, or will be, undertaking observational work at Mount John Observatory as part of the thesis work.


Additional Information:

The scholarship was established in 1999 as a result of a capital donation to the University of Canterbury from the Estate of Dennis William Moore, a Minister of Religion of Hari Hari and an Electrical Inspector. The capital donation was used to set up the Dennis William Moore Fund.
