Brief Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to inspire and assist young people of exceptional talent in New Zealand to begin a career in Astronomy at the University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits: $5,000 per annum

Level of Study: Undergraduate

Closing Date: None. Enrolment in the second year of an undergraduate degree programme majoring in Physics or Astronomy at the University will be regarded as an application.

Tenure: Up to three years (full-time) or five years (part-time).

Number Available Annually: At least one

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full- or part-time enrolment in a programme for a BSc or BSc (Hons) degree that includes at least one Astronomy course in each year of tenure

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be a citizen of New Zealand, or hold a New Zealand residence class visa

Additional Information:

Michael Snowden established the scholarship in 2017 in memory of his mother, Elaine P. Snowden, from Memphis, Tennessee, USA. It replaces the Aurora Scholarship in Astronomy, which had been established in 2002 by the same donor.
