Brief Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to support undergraduate students at the University of Canterbury who have a disability.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $3,000

Level of Study: Incoming First-Year Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 7 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: One

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time or part-time enrolment in the first year of an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be a citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand

Special Requirements: Must have a disability that would qualify you to be registered with the University of Canterbury Student Accessibility Service

Application Information:

Selection will be based on:
  1. academic achievement; and
  2. the applicant's assessment of how the scholarship will benefit them.


Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:
  • be a citizen of New Zealand
  • have a disability that would qualify them to be registered with the University of Canterbury Student Accessibility Service
Preference is given to applicants whose last year of secondary education was in North Canterbury



Additional Information:

Belfast Rotary Disability Trust donated funds to the University in their 25th anniversary year to support students with disabilities. In 2017, the Rotary Club of Belfast–Kaiapoi’s 50th anniversary year, the fund was worth $83,000. The club established the scholarship in 2020, for awards to be made in perpetuity.

A letter of thanks to the Rotary Club of Belfast-Kaiapoi must be sent to the Donors Relations Officer, University of Canterbury Foundation, for forwarding to the donor.
