application form. Applications open 11 June 2026 and close 6 August 2026
The scholarship supports old boys of Timaru Boys’ High School at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.
Value/Benefits:
Financial assistance at a value of $5,000 per annum for up to four years

Closing Date:
11:59 pm (NZT) 7 August* (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date.)
*If the 7th falls on a Friday or Saturday, the closing day will change as follows:
If it is a Friday, the closing date will shift to Thursday, 6th August
If it is a Saturday, the closing date will shift to Sunday, 8th August
Tenure:
Normally, the scholarship is tenable for three years. Recipients may apply, through the
University of Canterbury Foundation
, for an extension of one year for completion of a four-year undergraduate degree programme

The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in a programme for an undergraduate degree at the University
Citizenship/Residency Requirements:
Not applicable.
Special Requirements:
Applicants must be either current pupils of Timaru Boys’ High School, or past pupils of Timaru Boys’ High School on a gap year. The scholarship is tenable by students who were enrolled at Timaru Boys’ High School for at least three years.

Application Information:
Selection will be based on:
academic achievement;
potential contribution to Aotearoa New Zealand, as evidenced by:
i. qualities such as initiative and leadership; and
ii. sporting, cultural, and/or community activities
financial need.

Applicants must be either current pupils of Timaru Boys’ High School, or past pupils of Timaru Boys’ High School on a gap year. The scholarship is tenable by students who were enrolled at Timaru Boys’ High School for at least three years.
Additional Information:
The scholarship was established in 2000 by the settlors of the Ravenscar Trust, Alfred James (Jim) Wakefield (1933–2020), an old boy of Timaru Boys’ High School, and his wife Dr Susan Wakefield, both of whom are graduates of Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.
