This scholarship supports postgraduate students in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $25,000 per annum

Level of Study: Postgraduate, Doctoral 

Tenure: In the case of master's students, the scholarship is tenable for up to 120 points of enrolment. In the case of doctoral students, the scholarship is tenable for up to 360 points of enrolment.

Number Available Annually: One 

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Part-time or full-time enrolment in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University in a programme for a Master of Engineering degree, a Master of Engineering Studies degree, or a doctoral degree.

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable

Additional Information:

This scholarship was established in 2016 thanks to the generosity of distinguished Malaysian alumnus Tan Sri Dr Ngau Boon Keat. Tan Sri Dr Ngau grew up in Malaysia, and graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1971 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. After working for Mobil Oil in Singapore, in 1975 he joined Malaysia’s newly formed national oil and gas company, Petronas. Tan Sri Dr Ngau co-founded (in 1984), and is currently Executive Chairman of, Dialog Group, one of Malaysia’s leading listed companies, which provides services to the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries around the world. With his wife Jean Ngau he co-founded the charity MyKasih, which provides food aid, health awareness and financial literacy programmes, children’s education, and skills training programmes to less fortunate Malaysians. Tan Sri Dr Ngau was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering by the University of Canterbury in April 2012.
