Brief Description:



The scholarship supports those who have attend the Women in Engineering residential Programme (WiE CAN) at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury and are in their first year of a programme for a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours degree BE (Hons).

Level of Study: Incoming First-Year Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: At least 5

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Must be enrolled full-time enrolment in first year of a BE (Hons) programme

Special Requirements: Applicants must have participated in the WiE CAN residential programme at the University of Canterbury in the year of application

Application Information:

Selection will be based on:
  1. demonstrated commitment to, or interest in, the field of engineering;
  2. general character, leadership potential, and communication and social skills; and
  3. quality of achievement at NCEA Level 2, or in equivalent qualifications, for admission to Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.


Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must have participated in the WiE CAN residential programme at the University of Canterbury in the year of application.


Additional Information:

The scholarship must be taken up in Semester 1 of the year following the year of application.

The Tait Foundation established the scholarship in 2022 to support young women entering the field of engineering. The Tait Foundation was created when Sir Angus Tait put his company shares into a trust. The Foundation supported education and engineering in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
