Brief Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to support students at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury who studied at Southland Boys’ High School or Southland Girls’ High School.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $1,200

Level of Study: Incoming First-Year Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 7 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: Two

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment at the University

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable

Special Requirements: In the year of application, or in the year immediately prior if on a gap year, applicants must have been enrolled at either Southland Boys' High School or Southland Girls' High School

Application Information:

Selection will be based on:
  1. academic achievement, as indicated by quality of achievement at NCEA Level 2, or equivalent university entrance qualification.
If, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit from one of the schools, the scholarship available to applicants from that school may be offered to an applicant from the other school.

Additional Information:

This scholarship was established as a prize in 1998 by the University of Canterbury Students' Association, in recognition of the many years of service to the Association of Lloyd Lilley, a Life Member, who served the Association from 1981 to 2004. In 2001, in consultation with Mr Lilley, the regulations were amended to allow awarding as a scholarship.
