This scholarship recognises and supports Pacific students with high potential at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury who are entering their first year of a programme for a BA, BDataSci, or BSc degree and majoring in Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $2,000

Level of Study: Incoming First-Year Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: Up to two

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in a programme for a BA, BDataSci, or BSc with:
  • a major in Data Science and an enrolment in (a) MATH 102, and (b) STAT 101 or DATA 101; or
  • a major in Financial Engineering and an enrolment in MATH 103 and STAT 101; or
  • a major in Mathematics and an enrolment in MATH 103; or
  • a major in Statistics and an enrolment in STAT 101
Recipients who have completed MATH 199 are exempt from enrolling in MATH 102 or MATH 103

Special Requirements: Applicants must be Pacific, and must not have been enrolled in a degree programme at any tertiary institute

Application Information:

Selection will be based on:
  1. the University's commitment to broadening participation from under-represented groups, particularly those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and/or first in family;
  2. demonstrated commitment to, or interest in, the intended degree programme; and
  3. academic achievement at NCEA Level 2, or equivalent university entrance qualification.


Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must not have been enrolled in a degree programme at any tertiary institute. International students who meet this criteria are eligible to apply.*

*Participation in STAR courses, community education courses offered by tertiary institutions, orientation or general interest programmes run by tertiary institutions for secondary school students does not preclude eligibility for this award.

Applicants must be Pacific.
