$32,650 pa + tuition fees at domestic rate

Brief Description:

This scholarship supports students for study towards a research doctoral degree at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits:
The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value determined by funds available and stated in the offer. This typically may include a stipend payments and/or tuition fees for thesis enrolment only at the Aotearoa New Zealand domestic rate. 

Level of Study: Doctoral

Closing Date: Two application rounds each year:
  1. May - for students planning to start before 1 June; opens 20 March, closes 15 May.
  2. October - for students planning to start after 1st July; opens 20 August, closes 15 October.

Tenure: Up to 360 points of enrolment

Number Available Annually: Determined annually

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarships are tenable by students engaged in study for a research doctoral degree. In the case of the Doctoral Graduate Women Canterbury (Inc.) Trust Board Scholarship this research must be in Te Kaupeka Toi Tangata | Faculty of Arts or in Te Kaupeka Ako | Faculty of Education or in Te Kaupeka Oranga | Faculty of Health. For the Roper Scholarship in Science it must be in Te Kaupeka Pūtaiao | Faculty of Science, and for the William and Ina Cartwright Scholarship it must be in the discipline of Education.


Citizenship/Residency Requirements: There are no citizenship or residency requirements for this scholarship

Special Requirements: Canterbury Scholarship: Candidates must be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas. Doctoral Graduate Women Canterbury (Inc.) Trust Board Scholarship: Candidates must be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand who identify as female. Ngata Centenary Doctoral Scholarship, and UC Matariki Doctoral Scholarship: Candidates must have whakapapa Māori. Rātā Foundation Scholarship: Candidates must have a permanent address that is in one of the four regions of the Rātā Foundation. UC Pacific Doctoral Scholarship: Candidates must be Pacific.
