UC Business School First Year Scholarship for Excellence (Incoming First-Year Scholarship)

Brief Description:
The scholarship recognises academic and extracurricular achievement of students in secondary education within Aotearoa New Zealand and supports study in a programme for a BCom degree at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

Number Available Annually:
Sixteen, of which four are reserved for students with whakapapa Māori, and two are reserved for Pacific students
Applicable Enrolment During Tenure:
The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in the first year of a programme for a BCom that includes at least 60 points from the BCom schedule
Citizenship/Residency Requirements:
Must be a citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand or hold an Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visa

Application Information:
Selection will be based on:
quality of achievement in NCEA, or equivalent qualification;
leadership potential;;
involvement in extracurricular activities, such as cultural or sporting activities;
involvement in community activities;
contributions to school activities;
career aspirations and choice of major subject(s); and
recommendations from referees.
A scholarship reserved for applicants with whakapapa Māori or for Pacific students may be reallocated to the general category if fewer offers of such a scholarship are accepted than there are scholarships available in that category.
Special Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must not have been enrolled in a degree programme at any tertiary institute.*
*Participation in STAR courses, community education courses offered by tertiary institutions, orientation or general interest programmes run by tertiary institutions for secondary school students does not preclude eligibility for this award.
Additional Information:
Te Kura Umanga | UC Business School established the scholarship in 2022. It partly replaces the UC College of Business and Law First Year Award for Excellence.
