Brief Description:

This scholarship recognises and supports promising female scholars at the University of Canterbury who are in the Second Year of a programme for a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (BE(Hons)) degree and specialising in Civil Engineering.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, to a value of $2,000

Level of Study: Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: One

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time enrolment in the Second Year of a BE(Hons), with Civil Engineering specialisation.

Special Requirements: Must be female, and a citizen of New Zealand or hold a New Zealand residence class visa

Applicants must be enrolled in their second year of a BE(Hons) degree at the University, with a Civil Engineering or Natural Resources Engineering specialisation.

Additional Information:

Helen Trappitt established the scholarship in 2017, twenty years after she gained Direct Entry into the First Professional Year of Civil Engineering. She was awarded the University of Canterbury Civil Engineering Prize in 1999, graduated first in her class, and has enjoyed a wide variety of structural engineering experience since then, including being a director and shareholder at Lewis Bradford Consulting Engineers.
