Brief Description:
The scholarship recognises outstanding students from the Waitaha Canterbury region who are involved in entrepreneurial activities and supports study in the first year of a programme for a BCom degree at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in the first year of a programme for a BCom that includes at least 60 points from the BCom schedule

Applicants must be Aotearoa New Zealand citizens or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas
Special Requirements:
Applicants must be resident in the
Waitaha Canterbury region
, and/or attending a school in that region

Application Information:
Selection will be based on:
Enterprise and business qualities and skills, including those demonstrated through entrepreneurial activities, such as:
qualities of leadership;
qualities of teamwork;
business skills that made a difference to the success of the business; and
other qualities and skills.
Quality of achievement in NCEA, or an equivalent qualification.
Career aspirations and intended degree programme and major subject(s) at the University of Canterbury.
The recommendation of one of the following:
the teacher in charge of an entrepreneurship programme, the school principal, or a school dean (in the case of the activity being within a school); or
a business mentor or someone associated with the development of the business (in the case of the activity being outside of a school).
Preference is given to applicants with an interest in business and/or entrepreneurship as indicated by their intended degree and major at the University of Canterbury.
Special Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must:
be a citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand, or hold an Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visa;
be resident in the
Waitaha Canterbury region
, and/or attending a school in that region; and
have current or recent involvement in entrepreneurial activities, either as an individual initiative, or through a school's Business Studies programme, the Young Enterprise Scheme, or some other entrepreneurial programme.
Miscellaneous:
Te Kura Umanga | UC Business School established the scholarship in 2022. It replaces the UC Business and Law Enterprise Scholarship.
