Anne Reid Memorial Trust Scholarship
Award Amount
Up to $30,000 per annum. The student who holds the scholarship in 2023 will be offered $30,000.

Brief Description:

The scholarship is to assist students from Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury and Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland to undertake postgraduate study in Art History, English Literature, Fine Arts, or Music in an environment at an overseas institution that encourages the completion of a course, research, or a creative work.

The scholarship will likely next be offered at UC in 2025.

Value/Benefits: Up to $30,000 per annum.

Level of Study: Master's; Doctoral; Postgraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 October  (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date.)

Tenure: Normally one year. In exceptional circumstances, the selection committee may recommend tenure of up to two years.

Number Available Annually: Normally one. In exceptional circumstances, the selection committee may recommend the awarding of more than one scholarship.

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Enrolment at an overseas institution in a programme of study, research, or creative work towards a master’s or doctoral degree in one of the following subjects:
a. Art History
b. English literature
c. Fine Arts
d. Music

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Applicants must be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas.

Additional Information:

The scholarship commemorates Anne Reid of Waiharakeke Blenheim, Ōtautahi Christchurch, Singapore, and Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, who studied and taught at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha University of Canterbury and the National University of Singapore. The Anne Reid Memorial Trust established the scholarship in 2002.
