Brief Description:

This scholarship recognises and supports scholars at the University of Canterbury who are in the Third Year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(BE(Hons)) degree specialising in Civil Engineering at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: One

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time enrolment in the Third Year of a BE(Hons) programme specialising in Civil Engineering.

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Applicants must be Aotearoa New Zealand citizens or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas and must have attended Years 11-13 in a secondary school in Otago/Southland.

Application Information:

Ian Robertson FEngNZ, 1950-2023, was Head Prefect at Southland Boys’ High School, gained BE(Hons) First Class Honours and ME (Distinction) from the University of Canterbury, and was a director of a Consulting Engineering practice in Dunedin, before retiring to Queenstown. Ian’s passion lay in large, complex projects to which he applied his many skills including project management, design build operate delivery, environmental engineering, risk management, optimised construction and quality assurance. He held numerous project director and alliance board memberships across New Zealand, Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific. In 1991 he founded PAE (NZ), a branch of the facilities management company he worked for from 1977-1979 in Germany. Active in the industry, Ian held a number of governance positions, including President of ACE New Zealand from 1992-1994. Ian took an interest in supporting engineering students and graduates.
