This scholarship recognises top international scholars and supports them in study towards an undergraduate Engineering degree at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with tuition fees to a value of $15,000

Level of Study during Tenure: School leaver (First year undergraduate); Undergraduate

Closing Dates:
  • 11:59 pm (NZT) 1 March (for those who will be first enrolling for the following Semester 2, or for Summer School)
  • 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (for those who are studying in Aotearoa New Zealand at that date)
  • 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 October (for those who are studying overseas at that date)
(Applications open approximately 8 weeks before the given date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: 35

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time enrolment in any year of a programme for a BE(Hons) degree.

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Recipients must be full-fee-paying international students. Applicants may not be: citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or Australia; or permanent residents of Australia; or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas.

  • 1 March (for those who will be first enrolling for the following Semester 2, or for Summer School)
  • 15 August (for those who are studying in New Zealand at that date)
  • 31 October (for those who are studying overseas at that date)


Special Eligibility Requirements:

By the closing date for their application, an applicant must have applied to the University for admission to the (BE(Hons) degree programme.

Applicants cannot be current students in a programme for a BE(Hons) degree at the University.




Additional Information:

If, during the tenure of a scholarship, a recipient’s immigration status changes so that they are no longer a full-fee-paying international student, and they thereby obtain a partial refund of academic fees from the University, the scholarship is withdrawn, and any scholarship money paid since the status change was recorded at the University is refunded to the University.

Te Rāngai Pūkaha | College of Engineering established the scholarship in 2016 to replace the UC College of Engineering UK Scholarship. In 2017 the scholarship incorporated the UC College of Engineering Malaysian Scholarship.
