Brief Description:
This scholarships supports Māori and Pasifika postgraduate research students in Ecology or Environmental Science at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

Master's students: One year; PhD students: Up to three years

There may be only two holders of the scholarship at a time: normally one master's student and one PhD student.
Applicable Enrolment During Tenure:
Full-time enrolment in a programme for a research master’s or PhD degree in Ecology or Environmental Science.
Citizenship/Residency Requirements:
Not applicable
Special Requirements:
Applicants must have whakapapa Māori and/or Pacific.

Application Information:
In any year, there may be only two holders of the scholarship. Normally, one scholarship for a master’s student is available annually, and one scholarship for a PhD student is available approximately every three years. The scholarship for master’s students is advertised annually, and the scholarship for PhD students is advertised as it becomes available.
Special Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must have whakapapa Māori and/or Pacific.
Additional Information:
The scholarship was established in 2020 on receipt of a bequest from Peter George Holland (1939–2019). Emeritus Professor Holland was a graduate from and an adjunct member of staff of the University. He had a long association with the New Zealand Geographical Society and was elected Honorary Life Fellow in 2013. The scholarship has been endowed in the memory of his parents, Stan and Jessie Holland, by their eldest son.
