Kā Waimaero | Ngāi Tahu Centre Postgraduate Scholarship
Award Amount
Stipend of $12,000 or $16,000, plus tuition fees at the domestic rate and the Student Services Levy

This scholarship supports postgraduate diploma, honours, and master’s students whose study is facilitated through Kā Waimaero | Ngāi Tahu Centre at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. Preference is given to applicants undertaking research projects that promote mātauranga Māori and that are linked to the mission and current research foci of Kā Waimaero | Ngāi Tahu Centre. Up to three of five scholarships are reserved for those with whakapapa Ngāi Tahu.

Value/Benefits:
a. Scholarships reserved for those with whakapapa Ngāi Tahu: A stipend of $16,000
b. Open scholarships: A stipend of $12,000
c. Both categories of scholarship: (i) Full tuition fees at the Aotearoa New Zealand domestic rate for the specified programme of study, and (ii) Student Services Levy for the term of the scholarship

Level of Study during Tenure: honours, postgraduate diploma, master's

Closing Date: 31 October (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date.)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually:
a. Scholarships reserved for those with whakapapa Ngāi Tahu: Up to three
b. Open scholarships: Two

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time or part-time enrolment in a programme associated with Kā Waimaero | Ngāi Tahu Centre for:
a. a postgraduate diploma;
b. an honours degree; or
c. a master’s degree.

Citizenship/Residency Requirements:  Not applicable

Special Requirements: Whakapapa Ngāi Tahu is required for the reserved scholarships.
