Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is help current undergraduate students enrolled, full-time or part-time, at 100-level in a programme for a BSc degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $3,000 per annum

Level of Study: Undergraduate

Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 March (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: Three years

Number Available Annually: At least one

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time or part-time enrolment in a programme for a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable

Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be undergraduate students, enrolled, full-time or part-time, at 100-level in a programme for a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury.

Selection will be based on:
  1. financial need; and/or
  2. loss of a parent through death; and;
  3. academic achievement.
In selecting between two or more candidates considered to be equally qualified based on the selection criteria, preference will be given to any candidate who has attended Hagley College for at least one full year.

Additional Information:

Mrs Elizabeth Chilton, MBE, widow of the late Dr Charles Chilton (1860-1929), Professor of Biology and the first Rector of Canterbury College, bequeathed 1,000 pounds to the Board of Governors of the College in 1940 for the establishment of a scholarship for undergraduates studying Biology.
