To apply for the CNRE Doctoral Scholarship you will require the following:
1. Research Area: Applicants are required to identify the general area(s) of interest for their study from the list provided on our website https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/engineering/schools/cnre/research/.
2. Supervisor: Applicants should identify 2-3 potential supervisors from the CNRE website working in their areas of interest. This can be done by viewing staff profiles at the CNRE “Contact Us” webpage (Contact the Civil and Natural Resources Engineering Department | University of Canterbury). Although not compulsory, students are encouraged to indicate a preferred supervisor. Evidence of contact with a potential supervisor, such as email communication or a support letter confirming their availability and support of your application may be submitted with your CNRE scholarship application.
3. Curriculum Vitae: A CV of up to three pages. This should include academic history, work history, and any relevant research experience.
4. Research: A one-page essay on research interests, research experience, and motivations
5. Academic Documents: Transcripts from Bachelor and MS degrees (where applicable). Please ensure that the scan includes a description of the university grading scale. For an MS degree in progress, students are encouraged to submit their transcript to-date.
6. Evidence of English Language Proficiency: A description of suitable evidence can be found here: English language proficiency | University of Canterbury
7. References: A list of at least two academic references, including contact information (phone number and email address)
If the candidate is selected for a scholarship, they will be required to go through a separate admission process managed by UC’s central Admissions Office:
https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/enrol/doctoral/
The scholarship will be conditional on meeting all criteria for admission and enrolment on a full-time basis, including English Language proficiency and visa requirements. Applicants should check they can meet the admission requirements prior to making a CNRE scholarship application, but do not need to have applied for admission.
Students on admission to the university will also become eligible for consideration of the centrally administered UC Doctoral Scholarship. Students awarded both a UC Doctoral Scholarship and CNRE Doctoral Scholarship must select the UC Doctoral Scholarship as their preferred choice.
