Description:

This scholarship supports Master's students in Fire Engineering at the University of Canterbury. It was established by Arup, an international design, planning, engineering and management consulting firm with a long history of fire safety engineering as part of its broad multi-disciplinary approach to design of buildings and infrastructure.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, at a value of $4,000.

Level of Study: Master's

Closing Date: 5:00 pm (NZT) 2 December (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure: One year

Number Available Annually: One

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Must be enrolled full-time at the University of Canterbury in a programme for either a Master of Engineering in Fire Engineering (MEFE), or a Master of Engineering Studies in Fire Engineering (MEngSt(Fire)) degree

Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable

Application Information:

In addition to completing the online application, finalists (as determined by the Selection Committee) may be required to attend an interview to assist with the selection process, as outlined in the regulations.


Special Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must have met the academic requirements for enrolment in a programme for MEFE or MEngSt(Fire) by 10 December in the year of application for the scholarship. This means that by 10 December:

1. Applicants must have received final confirmed grades for the qualifying degree; and
2. Applicants requiring admission via Academic Equivalent Standing (AES) must have had this admission confirmed unconditionally (including any English language requirements).

In addition, for applicants who have completed the academic requirements but not the non-academic requirements for the BE(Hons) degree, offers of award are conditional on the completion and crediting of the non-academic requirements by 15 March in the year following application. Students may not take up the scholarship until such non-academic requirements have been completed and credited.

Selection will be based on:
  1. academic achievement;
  2. character, as evidenced by a reference, and (if applicable);
  3. the potential of any proposed research project as part of the MEFE/MEngSt (Fire) study to benefit fire science and fire safety engineering in New Zealand and internationally.
