Brief Description:

The scholarship is to support postgraduate students in Art History, Art Theory, or Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, to a value of:

PhD students: Up to $30,000 ($10,000 per annum)
MFA students: $7,500
BFA(Hons) and MA (Part II) students: $5,000
BA(Hons) and MA (Part I) students: $3,000

Level of Study: Honours, Master's, Doctoral

Tenure: 1-3 years, depending on the category. Please refer to the regulations for further details

Number Available Annually: Approximately seven. The scholarship is available for PhD study only if no PhD student currently holds the scholarship.

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Applicants must be enrolled, or intending to enrol, at the University of Canterbury in a programme for one of the following degrees:

Bachelor of Arts with Honours (BA(Hons)) in Art History, Art Theory, or Fine Arts
Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours (BFA(Hons))
Master of Arts (MA) in Art History, Art Theory, or Fine Arts
Master of Fine Arts (MFA)
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Art History, Art Theory, or Fine Arts

The scholarship was established in 1966 from a bequest of Ethel Rose (“Annie”) Overton (d. 5 June 1963).
