Brief Description:

The scholarship supports postgraduate study related to Forestry at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, at a value of $4,500 per annum

Level of Study: Master's; Doctoral

Closing Date: 1 November (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)

Tenure:
- MForSc students: 120 points of enrolment
- MSc in Environmental Science: 120 points of enrolment
- PhD in Forestry or Forest Engineering: up to 240 points of enrolment

Number Available Annually: Normally, there may be only two holders of the scholarship at a time: normally one master’s student and one PhD student.

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure:
- Thesis study for an MForSc
- Part II of an MSc in Environmental Science that is 100% supervised by Kura Ngahere | School of Forestry academics
- PhD in Forestry or Forest Engineering

Application Information:

Normally, there may be only two holders of the scholarship at a time: normally one master’s student and one PhD student. The scholarship for master’s students is advertised annually, and the scholarship for PhD students is advertised as it becomes available.


Additional Information:

The funds for this scholarship are provided from a trust fund established in 1975 from the subscriptions of shareholders of the former Hutt Timber Holdings Limited, as a memorial to Mr (Maxwell) Owen Browning (1903–1968), who was prominent in the development of the New Zealand timber industry.
