Additional Information:

These scholarships were established in 1997 by a generous gift from Noelene McIlroy, QSO (1991−2012), as a tribute to her father, Henry Vale (d. 1988), for his contribution to Aotearoa New Zealand in the field of mechanical engineering services. In 1910 Mr Vale founded the firm of H. Vale and Company Limited, Heating and Ventilating Engineers, Coppersmiths, Sheetmetal Workers, Plumbers' Merchants and Automatic Stoker Manufacturers. In 1937 he established a subsidiary company, Plastic and Diecasting Ltd., which was later renamed PDL Industries. Mr Vale sold the company in 1957. In 1998, Mrs McIlroy gave an additional sum to the scholarship fund, and in 2013 Mrs McIlroy’s estate made a further donation.
